The songs are themed around Christmas. New compositions include ‘Human Is …’, ‘A Thomas Merton Christmas’, ‘Christmas Island’, ‘A Soft Silver Light’, plus some old treasures reworked. The lyrics encompass hillbilly science-fiction, refugee issues, Native American spirituality, and Thomas Merton’s first Christmas in the monastery.

‘Old works rediscovered’ include new musical settings of

  • ‘The Huron Carol’ – Canada’s ‘first’ carol
  • Thomas Hardy’s poem ‘The Oxen’.
  • ‘The Cherry Tree Carol’ – a medieval poem reworked down the ages

This album is a meditative resource for a lonely Christmas Eve, or a source of tunes for the next time you go carolling.
